Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a "serial number" and "activation code"?

Although they look the same a serial number and an "activation code" are two different numbers. Pronunciation Power software is delivered with a "serial number".

A serial number enables access to software on any machine for a period up to 15 days. The activation code allows indefinite access on "one specific computer".

You can activate your software on your system using one of two methods.

  1. The single click activation system (large oval button on the attached graphic) will complete the process for you automatically. You must be connected to the internet to use this activation process.

You DO NOT need to click on "Enter Activation Code" button at any time with this process and you will not need to enter an activation code.

  2. If you do not have internet access the other option is for you to provide us with your serial number and MACHINE NUMBER and we will generate the activation code for you.

To do this, click on the button that says "email or fax." When you do this you will create a form on your desktop called "PronunciationPower_LIC.html". Fill in this form and email or fax it to us. We will send you your activation number by fax or email. When you receive the activation code you will then click the button that says "Enter Activation Code" and you will enter the code that we have sent you by fax or email.

We suggest that if your system is connected to the internet, you simply click on "One-Click" activation button.

On how many different machines am I licensed to use the software?

While the legal answer to this question is one, our systems will in fact allow two activation codes to be generated for the same serial number. This is for your convenience in the event you wish to move the software to a different system.

Attempts to use the software (as controlled by the serial number) will fail after the serial number has been used for two activations. Requests for free additional activation codes will be considered upon individual requests.

How can I get the "Talking Dictionary" or my "Speech Solution" product to operate properly on a newer Windows operating system?

These are "older products" for which the following procedure may allow you to operate on Windows 2000 or newer systems.

  1. Create a folder called "Speech Solutions" on your hard disk (the C or D drive, it doesn't matter).
  2. Insert the Speech Solutions CD, locate it and open its window.
  3. Select all the files on the CD and copy them into the newly created "Speech Solutions" folder on the hard disk.
  4. Eject the CD.
  5. Download the "DirectSound.x32" file - with your Web Browser go to: http://www.englishelearning.com/support/DirectSound.x32 and choose "Yes" when prompted to save the file to your computer. Choose the desktop as the location to download the file.
  6. Copy the "DirectSound.x32" file from the desktop into the folder called "Xtras" located in the "Speech Solutions" folder created on the hard disk.
  7. Run the "SpeechSolutions.exe" program from the "Speech Solutions" folder on the hard disk and check if sound is now working. If so, do the same process for the Dictionary (except the folder you create should be called "8 in 1 Dictionary").
